Hop off the wheel… and pause
I will tell you a story about a little guy named Peter. He ran, and ran, and ran; then he jumped off. He would scurry about below, climb to the ceiling and hang upside down, but only for a few moments. Peter was a hamster. We’d watch as he’d pause for perspective, yet inevitably he’d be back on his wheel once again. Until the day it stopped.
My husband and I joked about Peter’s aimlessness; all that running and going nowhere. We’d be in the midst of something seemingly purposeless and we’d wink at one another, remembering Peter’s antics. He passed as all things do. Peter, moments, wheels, and my Steve.
In it all, God is always at work. Not all our mission fields are in the desert, jungle or abroad. The mission fields of our heart and here in our home launches some of the Lord’s most mighty work, smack dab in the unseen. We can be quick to dismiss things on the surface as without value but hearts, homes, workplaces, and the unknown… all bear significance. Embrace the beauty of even the humdrum while you have it. Find the reasons around it to be thankful. Stay teachable amidst the weariness. Hold on for hope. It’s on the horizon. God is knitting a beautiful tapestry quite above our line of vision.
Romans 8:28 NKJV
And we know that all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are the called according to His purpose
